Developed by the Swedish HR-tech company Alva Labs, the Logic Test is a scientifically validated assessment used to measure General Mental Ability (GMA). It’s designed to assess how quickly and accurately candidates can identify patterns in visual information. The test is non-verbal and language-independent, making it suitable for a wide range of roles and industries.
What kind of questions can be expected?
Visual matrices (typically 3×3 grids)
Each matrix contains shapes arranged according to logical rules. Your task is to select the correct figure that completes the pattern from six options.
The Alva Logic Test can be taken in many languages, but since it’s a visual, non-verbal test, language fluency has minimal impact. Still, it’s good to take the practice test in the same interface language you will use during the real assessment.
Test the Talent offers five English test sets.
More than 140 questions / tasks to practice.
You can use this to determine your level so you know if you would pass the right test.
You will receive detailed feedback on every single question.
Best conditions to improve significantly.
The Alva Logic Test is adaptive, meaning the difficulty adjusts to your performance in real time. Each candidate faces a unique combination of questions tailored to their ability level. This makes the test efficient and fair, minimizing guessing and ceiling effects.
You have 20 minutes to answer as many questions as possible — usually between 15 and 20. Each question must be answered within 2 minutes, otherwise, it’s skipped automatically.
After each answer, the algorithm evaluates your performance and selects the next question accordingly. Correct answers increase difficulty; incorrect ones lower it slightly. The test aims to quickly zero in on your optimal performance level.
Once you complete the test, you receive a percentile-based score indicating your performance compared to a large reference group. You’re placed in one of five result bands: Very Low, Low, Average, High, or Very High. Employers use this to assess your cognitive potential and compare it with other applicants.
Scoring is based on an Item Response Theory (IRT) model. You won’t receive a count of correct answers, but rather a relative score that reflects how difficult the questions you answered were. A “High” or “Very High” score means you were able to solve harder patterns than most.
Employers rely on the Alva Logic score to predict how well you might handle learning, problem-solving, and adapting to new challenges. A strong score is often linked to success in roles that involve strategic thinking, innovation, and complex decision-making. While it’s not the only criterion for hiring, it’s a major one.
